Preparing for the Last Conference of 2018

All of us at LIA have been busy, busy, BUSY this past few months. We’ve been working in what we refer to as ‘Conference Mode’, with each staff member pushing to make everything perfect for each LIA Conference. Although it’s been hectic, we wouldn’t change a thing. The outcome of each LIA Conference and the impact on our students is well worth it!

Last week all of our staff members took a walking tour of the University of Utah campus. It was a beautiful but cold spring day, which is often the norm in Utah. We got to see the locations of our workshops, performances, and everything else before the craziness of Thursday begins.

Entering the Union building, there are rows and rows of flags hanging from the ceiling in celebration of the university’s diversity. The massive windows let the spring sunshine come through and brighten everything it touches. Our VIP Breakfast will be held here, and this building’s elegance makes it an ideal location.

As we walked from building to building, one thing that each of us realized was that we were walking a LOT. For the young ladies who will join us at the U of U Conference this week, we would definitely suggest that you choose your shoes wisely! Pick shoes that you know are comfortable to avoid blisters or any other discomfort.

Standing in the Jon M. Huntsman Center, it’s easy to imagine all of our brilliant students filling this impressive arena. While it is often the location of basketball games, on April 26th it will see powerful performances from our students and inspirational addresses from our keynote speakers.

Latinos are brilliant, and we can’t wait to celebrate and inspire our Latinos In Action students this week! We’ll see you on Thursday – don’t forget that I CAN and together WE WILL!
